Wastewater Irrigation

Wastewater irrigation use to be the forgotten part of the wastewater treatment, now the importance of the disposable area is a prime facture in the wastewater treatment process.

There are a number of ways to dispose of the treated wastewater, spray, drip, mound or Subsurface. In recent times subsurface has become the proffered option for the governing bodies and health dept to approve.

Subsurface irrigation.

Subsurface irrigation as the name implies is installed below ground between 100mm - 300mm depending on the treatment process. Specially designed poly pipe is laid in a grid pattern below ground, normally in the root zone of the grass vegetation. Depending on the manufacture of the product, there are different processes to control root intrusion into the drip emitters. "Wasteflow Rootguard" use emitters specially moulded with a slow release non-toxic inhibitor that stops plant root growth around the dripper. This protection is critical to the long term reliability of the system, and comes with a 10 year warranty, with most likely life of 20+ years.

Spray irrigation.

Spray irrigation can be in the form of a number of different ways. The most common and cheapest is spike rotary sprays; these sprays are just pushed into the ground, with supply from the main irrigation via 4mm poly tube to the spray head. These sprays cover an area of approximately 3 metre diameter. They are prone to damage from Whipper snipers, mowers, animals, etc.

Pop up sprays are becoming more popular, because of the lower maintenance costs and the ease for the property owner to maintain the irrigation area. Pop up are more expensive initially to install, but over time are more practble. Depending on the size of the irrigation area required and council requirements, a number of different pop up options are available. From the lower pressure pop up, with a cover area of 4 metres dia to large capacity pop ups with a coverage area of up to 15 metre diameters.
